Who inspired you to make music?
I don’t think there was one single moment or band that drove me to play music. It’s just something that I sort of gravitated towards it.
What is your creative process like? Do you start with lyrics? Instruments? Concept?
So generally, it all starts with the riff. Our guitarist Paul and bassist Joe will come to practice with a couple of riffs, so we start there and see which riffs go together. As riffs start to come together, I’ll start to work on vocal patterns and lyrics. Sometimes the lyrics will come out quickly and sometimes, they don’t. Eventually, it will all come together and the last thing is the title. Generally, they go along with the lyrics or convey the idea I’m trying to get across.
What do you feel is the best song you have released/written and why?
That’s hard to answer because the songs are like children and it’s hard to pick a favorite one. Usually if I do have a favorite, we will write something new even better and that one will become my new favorite. We push ourselves to make that next song better than all the ones that came before it.
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
Don’t worry about trying to impress anyone or worry about their opinions, do what makes you happy and have fun doing it.
If you could be any kind of cookie, what would it be and why? (Most important question)
Trash can cookie, because its a lot of good things all put together into one.
How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
I think it has helped a lot in some ways. You are able to check out and hear bands from all over the world that you normally wouldn’t be able to hear about. It’s also a lot easier to reach out and find venues to play at and book tours.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
Pay musicians more from streaming services. Make it worthwhile for them.
What is the most useless talent you have?
I am double jointed in both thumbs
When you’re done with music, what do you want people to think when they talk about you and your work?
I hope they say that Diseased Earth was an awesome band and had some great riffs.
What is your most recent project/upcoming project?
We just released a new single “Coven of Leeches” that is available on all streaming services. We have plans to re enter the studio towards the end of March to record three more songs.
