Heedless Elegance [Interview]

Who inspired you to make music?

It’s a good question, because I remember who inspired me to play music, but to write my own, I
don’t know. I think it is an evolutionary process, started with the first band I ever heard and will go
on till I’m dead or maybe more. The first song I ever wrote was when I finished high school and
moved to the U.K. Maybe not a music group was inspiring me to write music, but the freedom what
I felt that time.

What is your creative process like? Do you start with lyrics? Instruments? Concept?

Usually my method is that I start to write the music itself. In my head there is a bit of a concept of
what kind of song I would like to make, what kind of emotions I want to focus on. After hours and
hours of trying, possibly there will be a useful, or sometimes a very good base of the song, so I can
continue with the filling of the gaps, connections between 2 parts. The final outcome of the song
instrumentally usually made by all of us in the band, we come together, and we only call it final,
when everyone is satisfied with the outcome. The lyrics comes after all these usually.

What do you feel is the best song you have released/written and why?

To be honest, our new album “LIBRA” from the first song till the last one is my favorite.

I can’t choose one, because all of them are very close to me, and I love them so much, and I’m very
proud of all the songs and HE for making this LP! We worked so much on every song and we gave
our souls and hearts to make them as good as possible.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

There was a pre-concept in my head about how can be a band successful and how can an
individual behave to bring out the maximum from him or herself. My thought was that you don’t
need plan “B” only plan “A” because why you need a safety path if you are truly believe in your
music and the way you are in. I was telling this to Zsolt and he showed me a paragraph from the
book of Bruce Dickinson about his and Iron Maidens past, and there was one specific place where
they were talking about the same thing, that if you want to do this for real, you need to focus on
only one thing, and we all know where they are these days! I still follow this advice.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

We could possibly talk about this topic for hours, there are a lot of segments what we need to
examine if we want to come out with a fully relevant hypothesis. The music is not exclusive
anymore but it gave a huge opportunity to individuals to show themselves to the world, and
possibly reach their goals. We can argue about that if it’s good or not, but one thing is true that it
happened, and we have to accept it, the industry changed! Personally I think the value of physical releases are started to gain back its values, so maybe the industry could be changing again, we will
see it I think in the next 10 years.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

I think the most important thing what I would be glad if I could see in the industry in the near
future is a balanced, equal representation of all genres, so the key of your success is not the type of
music what you are playing and its “marketability”, but the quality of it. The musicians only job
would be to write honest, professional songs and if its truly good, it wouldn’t matter if its a pop
metal or a rap song, it will be on the radio represented to a huge amount of people.

When you’re done with music, what do you want people to think when they talk about you and your work?

To be honest, I hope that if someone is listening to our music, especially the new album “LIBRA”
they will feel something different when they are hearing it, something that makes them say this
is not just another metalcore-deathcore something, and they want to listen it again and again,
and find new moments in it every time they are hearing it, and maybe in the future the name will
grow on the style and someone will say instead of “This is so metalcore”, but “This is so Heedless”.

What is your most recent project/upcoming project?

With Heedless Elegance we just released our second LP called “LIBRA” on January 31th, our plan
is if it’s possible we will start to play as many shows in as many places around Hungary, Europe,
and if we are lucky around the world. We will do everything what we can to make it happen.
