Five Crumbs are back with another energetic song called „Gravity“. This track has a more upbeat feel to it compared to previous songs of the band but still has that dark vibe they’re known for. They went for a fierce blend of heavy rock riffs and electronical elements that will speak to a big audience. Bio From the Band:
Five Crumbs is an alternative rock band from Greifswald, Germany. Founded in 2017, they set out to create a modern and unique sound by combining modern rock riffs with elements from styles outside of the genre.
Their previous releases (2 EPs and one single) fascinated rock fans around the world and got lots of positive reviews . They worked with the renown producer Jeffro Lackscheide for both EPs and were featured on different music blogs and online magazines with their single „Monster“.
Their new release „Gravity“ has a more upbeat feel to it compared to previous songs of the band but still has that dark vibe they’re known for. They went for a fierce blend of heavy rock riffs and electronical elements, creating an exciting listening experience.
This song is about times when you can’t really complain about your life and all the things you have, but you just can’t feel satisfaction and eventually drift away if you lose grip of reality. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions both musically and lyrically.
Highlights
The chorus is really where it’s at for this song.
I like that–and I understand the irony here given that the song is called “gravity”–the chorus has a light feeling to it while not losing the full sound. They could have hit the drums and bass lines harder and deepened the sound but instead, they pull the drums back from the guitars and vocals and it creates a nice mix that still has a punch to it without being overpowering.
Low Points
I’m not sure how I feel about the synths used in the verses…
I mean, anyone who’s read my other posts has probably figured out that I LOVE me some synths. They make me dance and I will never apologize for that. But there is a time and place for them and I’m not sure if this is it.
I think the big issue for me is that the synth is used as this kind of build at the very beginning of the song so I was expecting to get hit with a really full sound right at the start–but it pulled back instead.
I would have liked to hear them bring some of the fullness that the chorus has the verses and then really lean into it when the chorus can around.
I think that would fit the vocals better too.
Rating:
It’s really more of a 2.5/5 for me because I feel like all the potential is here but they just haven’t pushed it far enough. I’d like to hear them really let loose and fill out their sound. It just feels like they’re holding back a little bit and I want them to just go for it.
